"The State exists to protect the interests of its members, it was formed with that explicit purpose. We can look at the formation of the US government as an example. The authors of the US constitution were the wealthiest men in the North American colonies and they constructed the US government to protect their own wealth. Consider how only land owning white men could vote, this limited political participation to the minority of property owners. Direct political participation was extremely difficult, only rarely could people vote directly for those running for office. By restricting the political power only to those who shared their own interests, the founders of the US State ensured that it would protect their property for the foreseeable future."Since the State only serves the minority, it must prevent the majority from forming a government which is truly democratic. This requires violence since meaningful political participation is impossible. By making peaceful revolution impossible, the only way to prevent revolution is brutal state oppression. There is a constant power struggle between the people and the State. Over time the power of the State grows since this is one of the best ways to preserve itself."
